I learned a lot from reading the Yale Film Studies Analysis Website that I never knew before. Throughout the website, it was extremely detailed in descriptive. The website was very well-written and concise, but some topics were still difficult for me to understand. I thought it was interesting how critics use “auteur” instead of author to describe someone “who stamped a film with his/her own personality” as opposed to “’metteurs en scene’ who merely transcribed a work achieved in another medium into film.” I also thought it was neat how they used examples of movies when describing the different “basic terms,” instead of just saying what each one meant. The pictures were extremely helpful when looking at the “misc-en-scene” because a lot of the description can be looked at in different ways, and the pictures help you to figure out exactly what it means. Also the pictures from the movies are good examples and show you how the affects have been used in real films. I also thought it was extremely interesting how you could actually watch mini films/examples when looking at the cinematography, in addition to looking at the little pictures. A lot of times having a visual and seeing what is being described truly does help you to understand a topic/idea better.
